UK Status

Resident. Widespread and as far as East Lothian in Scotland, more common in south-east England.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2010 at Llanfyllin in the north of the county. This was only the eight record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F, 9-13mm.

Confusion species

C. viscariella, C. marmorea.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Habitat

Dry grasslands, heaths, damp areas.

Foodplant

Bog stitchwort, lesser stitchwort, field mouse-ear and common mouse-ear.

Lifestage data

Shoot miner. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva bores into a young shoot which forms into a gall like structure. Pupates in slight cocoon amongst detritus on the ground.
